WET, Horizons Delmarva cohost youth environmental event

Wicomico Environmental Trust collaborated with Horizons Delmarva to host a youth environmental activity day and picnic on Saturday, May 13. The nonprofit Horizons Delmarva works with teachers and families to help low-income students from kindergarten through high school overcome the summer achievement gap. Visit the Horizons Delmarva website for more information about its mission and programs.

Although the plan was for outdoor activities and learning, as the day of the picnic approached, the forecast indicated that rain was likely, so the event was shifted to Wor-Wic Community College. WET volunteers adjusted the planned activities for the indoor venue, including a cookout served in the cafeteria but cooked on a grill just outside.

The participating first- through fourth-grade students engaged in a variety of fun, science-based hands-on activities that explored nature and the environment.

WET and Horizons Delmarva hope that this event will be the first of many similar collaborations between the two organizations.Â
